Black Screen and External Mic

Posted on May 14, 2007 at 17:38

I have been having some weird problems on my computer, wondering if anyone has experienced things like this (and has a solution short of reinstalling the XP):

  • Almost every time I initiate a call on Google Talk, my audio recording input is magically switched from Internal Mic (built in to my Dell Latitude D820) to External Mic (which doesn’t exist), prompting me to quickly type “wait a sec” into my chat window while I open up my audio control panel and switch back to Internal Mic
  • When I open pages that load some type of complicated JavaScript and sometimes Java Applets (for example, a webpage that will calculate how much you will have to pay on a mortgage per month over 30 years, stuff like that) both of my monitors go black. I can still Alt-F4 to close out programs and try to save them. But the only way that I can recover is to restart. It is very annoying.

If anyone has any insight into either of these, I would appreciate it very much.

Update (2007-08-16): I solved the black screen problem.
