Firefox, the Memory Hog
Posted on April 24, 2007 at 22:31I like Firefox. I really do. But I am really getting sick of seeing things like this in my Task Manager:

For all of its faults, the amount of memory that FF2 uses to perform simple tasks compared to IE7 is simply unacceptable. If they cant figure this out in the next few releases, I am think that they will lose me as an every day user (I will still keep it installed to use FireBug and the WebDev toolbar when I need to).

My guess is one of your extensions is causing a memory leak. Try removing the firebug extension or just try
firefox -safe-modeat the command line. Googled “firebug memory leak” came back with a number of entries! Mozillazine also has a page entitled “Reducing memory usage Firefox” for more help.2) Arie on May 6, 2007 | Reply
